By the end of this course you will know how to use a professional DAW to create and finish an EDM song. The techniques and principles you will learn on this course are universal and not specific to any genre like house or trance or any other sub genres. The goal with this course is to give you the underlying understanding, principles and tools you need to create professional EDM songs no matter the genre. The genre might change but the underlying principles stay the same.
Everything we do on the course will happen inside one of the world’s most popular music production DAW’s, Reason created by Propellerheads. The DAW offers an all in one solution that allows you to stay in one DAW for the entire process from creating your basic idea, to creating your own custom sounds, to arranging your song and then mixing and finally mastering your song.
First we will start with a look at the essentials you absolutely must know when it comes to EDM production. This module will give you the foundational knowledge about EDM, how it works, how it is put together, and other important pieces of information you should be aware of.
Once we have the foundation covered, we will take a quick look at music theory. Being an EDM producer means you are creating music. So it is very important that you have a basic understanding of music. The deeper your understanding of music, the more freedom and options you have when creating A song. In this module you will learn key aspects of music theory that will help you every time you create music in your DAW.
Next we will look at how an EDM song gets put together. We will talk about the common sections you find in an EDM song as well as what usually happens within each of those sections. This module gives you the roadmap for turning your loops or ideas into full EDM songs.
Once you have the basic structure of your song sorted out, you will have to make sure it sounds as good as the professional music you listen to. This is where mixing and mastering comes in. During this module you will learn different techniques to get the best sound from your songs. By applying these techniques you will be able to take your songs from amateur to professional sounding every time.
Finally we will end off with a module on synthesizers and how to use them. As an EDM producer you will usually have to create your own unique sounds that work for your song. To do this we use synthesizers most of the time. So it is essential that you have a good understanding of how a synthesizer works and then how to actually apply what you know to manipulate the sound you get from the synth.
From there it’s up to you to spend time creating music and practicing each of the topics we handled on this course.
